Vol. 120 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Afforestation.

Mr. Murphy

asked the Minister for Lands whether, in view of his declared intention to intensify reafforestation throughout the country, he will consider including in his programme suitable areas in West Cork, particularly Glengarriff and the adjoining Beara peninsula.

I am prepared to include in the forestry programme any land, in West Cork or elsewhere, which complies with the following conditions: (1) That it is suitable for tree growth; (2) that it can be acquired at a price commensurate with its value for forestry purposes; (3) that it can be acquired in blocks sufficiently large and compact to admit of economic working.

No recent offers of land in the Glengarriff area have been received.
