asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will give the qualifications necessary to secure employment under (a) the farm buildings scheme, and (b) the land reclamation scheme; if he will state whether it is necessary to have done a term in an agricultural school; and, if so, for what period; and if he will give particulars of all those employed since 1948 who had not such qualifications, stating their names and addresses and indicating the method of selection followed by him.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Qualifications.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government (Mr. Corish) (for the Minister for Agriculture)
The qualifications for employment under the two schemes mentioned by the Deputy are that the candidates should have an agricultural training and background and also the personality rendering them suitable for the work which they are required to do. These requirements are assessed by a departmental selection board. It may be taken that in the absence of any other evident agricultural qualification candidates should have at least attended a session at an agricultural school normally about one year.
There were no persons employed since 1948 who did not possess the requisite qualifications.
