Vol. 120 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Bog.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that there is a large tract of undeveloped bog on the Perrse estate at Roxboro, Loughrea, County Galway; and, if so, whether he will request the Land Commission to divide this bog between the tenants and others who need turbary.

The Land Commission have no bog on hands on this estate. Presumably the Deputy is referring to the bog known as "Roxboro Mountain" which is owned by 82 tenants in common. For a considerable time the Land Commission have tried to get these tenants to surrender their surplus turbary so that it could be developed and allotted but only half of the tenants are prepared to do so. Perhaps the Deputy could "help-out" in this matter by getting all the tenants to agree.

May I ask the Minister if, in fact, the tenants requested him to meet a deputation on this matter last year and that he refused to meet them?

That is not so. I have never refused to meet a deputation. I am always willing to meet people to hear their grievances.

In fact, I can produce the Minister's own letter refusing to meet the deputation. May I ask the Minister now if the tenants agree to meet him will he agree to meet them?

After the statement which the Deputy has made?

Will the Minister agree to meet a deputation from the tenants now with regard to this matter?

When the Deputy withdraws his previous wrong statement.

When the Minister withdraws his letter?

If I produce the Minister's own letter, what about it?

Produce it.

Certainly.
