Vol. 120 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Housing Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received an application for a housing grant from Mr. Johnson, Mountmellick, County Laoighis; and, if so, if he will now sanction payment or state the cause of the delay in doing so.

An application for an instalment of a housing grant was received in my Department from Mr. Michael Johnson on April 12th, 1950. Payment will be made to him within a few days. The work in this case was not begun until October, 1949, and I am satisfied that no undue delay has occurred in dealing with the application.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received an application for a housing grant from Mrs. E. Dunican, Leabeg, Cloghan, County Offaly; and, if so, if he will now sanction payment or state the cause of the delay in doing so.

I have received an application for a reconstruction grant under the Housing Acts from Mrs. Dunican. Payment of an instalment of the grant will be made to her within a week. Delay in making payment has been occasioned by the applicant's failure to observe her undertaking to carry out the work of reconstruction in accordance with the approved scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received an application for a housing grant from Mr. Richard Talbot, Moneygall, County Offaly; and, if so, if he will now sanction payment or state the cause of the delay in doing so.

I have received an application for a reconstruction grant under the Housing Acts from Mr. Richard Talbot and will be prepared to sanction the grant if he completes and returns to the Department the undertaking sent to him on April 28th to carry out all repairs regarded as necessary.

Is the Minister aware that the final inspection was made in this case about two months ago, and that the applicant has not since heard from the Department?

Certain inquiries were necessary in order to satisfy legal requirements as to his occupation and what he derives his livelihood from. He was asked to make a statement to satisfy these requirements.
