Vol. 121 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Home-Made Butter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (i) the quantity of home-made butter exported during the year 1949 and the average price received per lb. by the exporters; (ii) the average price per lb. received by the producers for this butter; (iii) the calculated price per gallon of milk which the production of this butter returned to the producer, and (iv) the price per lb. which the producer of home-made butter is likely to receive in the present production season.

The quantity of non-creamery butter exported during the year 1949 was 12,609 cwt. The price which the purchasers agreed to pay was 2/1 per lb. free-on-board Cork. As there is an entirely free market for farmers' butter, I am not in a position to say what price producers received for this butter, nor what price they are likely to receive in the present production season.
