Vol. 121 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have served notice of their intention to acquire the Satchwell lands at Creggs, County Galway; and, if so, when and, if not, what consideration the Land Commission have given to the matter.

I have nothing further to add to my reply to the Deputy's question of 26th April last regarding these lands.

Will the Minister state if his reply is an indication that no steps have been taken so far towards the acquisition of those lands?

My reply has been that I have nothing further to add to the reply I gave to the Deputy's question on the 26th April last. I understand that the Deputy at a public meeting two years ago made a pronouncement to the effect that the Land Commission should not acquire these lands. Such statements may influence the Land Commission in their decision to acquire or not acquire.

That is not true.

It is true.

That is a deliberate untruth.

The Deputy must withdraw the word "deliberate".

If a statement is made deliberately about me, what steps have I to take? Should not the Minister be made withdraw his statement?

The Deputy must withdraw the word "deliberate".

If a Minister makes a statement about a Deputy which the Deputy says is untrue, should not the Minister be asked to withdraw it?

The Deputy said it was "a deliberate untruth", which is quite a different thing.

I must content myself by saying that it was an untruthful statement.

The Deputy is withdrawing the word "deliberate"?

If I may say this——

Question No. 13.
