Questions— Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state why steps were not taken by the Land Commission to purchase 360 acres offered for sale by Mr. Clements, Branstown and Colvins-town, Tara, County Meath, and whether he is aware in this connection that these lands were recently sold by public auction to a private buyer at a very reasonable figure, and if he will further state why proceedings have been taken by the Land Commission to acquire compulsorily the lands of Mr. Leo Charles, Brick, County Meath, which contain 120 acres, while the adjoining lands, formerly owned by Mr. Clements, contain 360 acres.

The Deputy appears to have been misinformed. The Land Commission have decided to institute proceedings for the acquisition of 370 acres on the Clements estate. Proceedings were instituted in repect of 413 acres on the Charles estate and an objection was allowed in respect of 125 acres. The proceedings for the acquisition of the balance of 288 acres are being continued.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have taken any proceeding for the acquisition of the lands of Mr. Peter Grealish, Carnmore, Oranmore, County Galway.

Proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition of part of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the lands of the Potter Estate (non-residential), Castleblakeney, County Galway, are being set year after year, and whether, in view of the fact that there are uneconomic congested tenants of the Land Commission in the locality, he will state what progress the Commission have made in having these lands acquired for division.

The proceedings for the acquisition of these lands are nearing the final stage.

asked the Minister for Lands if he can yet state from the inquiries which the Land Commission were making whether it is the intention of the Commission to acquire any portion of Mr. James D'Arcy's lands, Killasmuggaun, Newforest, record No. U. 5991.

As the inquiries in this case have not been completed, the Land Commission have not reached a decision on the question of acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission intend to acquire for division the lands of Mr. J. Divilly, Shannagh, Glenamaddy, County Galway.

Proceedings for the resumption of part of the lands in question are nearing completion.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission intend to acquire Keaveney's lands, Creggaun, Glanamaddy, County Galway, for division.

Proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission propose to acquire the non-residential holding of Mr. Denis Costello, Guilkagh, Menlough, Ballinasloe, County Galway, with a view to the relief of congestion in the locality.

The Land Commission have decided not to take any action for the present for the acquisition of these lands.
