Vol. 122 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the price per gallon paid to producers for milk in (a) the Six Counties, and (b) the Twenty-Six Counties in the years 1947-48, 1948-49 and 1949-50.

I have no function in regard to prices paid for milk to producers in the Six Counties.

The only areas in the Twenty-Six Counties in respect of which producers' prices for milk sold for liquid consumption are fixed are the Dublin and Cork production districts. The minimum prices payable to producers in these districts are set out in the following Orders:—

Dublin Production District.

Statutory Rules and Orders Nos. 122 and 352 of 1947;

Statutory Instruments Nos. 145 of 1948 and 108 of 1949.

Cork Production District

Statutory Rules and Orders Nos. 123 and 351 of 1947;

Statutory Instruments Nos. 146 of 1948 and 109 of 1949.

As far as the remainder of the State is concerned, the price obtainable by producers, after allowing for handling and distribution costs, is subject to the limitations imposed by Statutory Orders fixing maximum retail prices for milk, which are made by the Minister for Industry and Commerce.
