Vol. 122 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cinemas Built without Licences.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the names of the places in which the six cinemas were erected or reconstructed since the introduction of building control and in respect of which no building licences have been issued, and if he will state whether any proceedings are contemplated in the one case where no action has yet been taken; and, if not, why not, and where this cinema is situated.

The names of the places are Castleisland, Tralee, Ballybay, Castlemaine, Mooncoin and Carrick-on-Shannon. The cinema referred to in the second part of the question is situated at Carrick-onShannon. Legal proceedings were taken against the parties concerned in the illegal building work on this cinema.

Am I to take it that that covers all the cinemas in respect of which building licences were not secured?

I have answered the question.

If the Deputy has any, perhaps he would give us the names of them.

I got an answer to a parliamentary question on the 20th June, 1950, in which the Parliamentary Secretary informed me that some six cinemas were erected without a licence and that in respect of five of these proceedings were taken in court. I have asked him to give me their names and location and to indicate what the attitude of his Department is towards the sixth.

I have answered the question. The sixth was at Carrick-on-Shannon and legal proceedings were taken.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say when these legal proceedings were taken?

The 20th June.
