Vol. 122 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farm Workers and Unemployment Insurance.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he will take steps to ensure that farm workers who become unemployed will have the same right to benefit by unemployment insurance as persons engaged in other occupations.

The Social Welfare (Insurance) Bill, 1950, which I introduced on the 6th instant, is designed to implement the scheme of social security proposed in the White Paper published in October last. The Deputy will have observed that the White Paper contained proposals for the extension of unemployment insurance to agricultural workers on the same basis as industrial workers.
