Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Coal.
During the period January-May, 1950, household coal was imported from Great Britain, Poland, Belgium, Western Germany and the Six Counties. The c.i.f. prices per ton were:— Great Britain, £4 10s. 6d.; Poland, £5 0s. 5d.; Belgium, £5 10s. 0d.; Western Germany, £5 6s. 6d.; and the Six Counties, £5 13s. 4d.
Anthracite, gas and steam coal were also imported in the same period from Great Britain at £6 0s. 11d., £4 13s. 10d. and £4 1s. 2d. per ton, c.i.f., respectively.
The national average price per hundredweight for household coal, as ascertained in the mid-May, 1950, inquiries for the computation of the quarterly cost-of-living index was 7/1½d.
