Vol. 123 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Game-Shooting Licence.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the serious injustice meted out to tenant farmers by the substantial increase in the cost of a game-shooting licence; and, if so, if he will have the position reviewed at an early date.

The rate of duty for a firearm certificate for a shotgun has been increased by 5/- only and I cannot agree that this increase imposes any injustice upon farmers.

Would the Minister explain to Deputy Giles that he increased the game licence by only 12½ per cent. while he increased the licence for a farmer who wants to kill vermin on his farm by 100 per cent.? Would he also explain to Deputy Giles that he voted for that?

I do not think it is a great hardship to pay 10/- for a licence to get rid of vermin. People in this House might even pay more.
