Vol. 123 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Animal Feeding Stuffs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will consider the desirability of purchasing and holding in reserve a quantity of animal feeding stuffs for sale at reasonable terms to farmers who are in danger of losing their stock through the failure of the hay crop.

Ample supplies of maize and milo maize are on hands or in the course of shipment. The feeding stuffs supply position is under daily study with a view to meeting the demands of feeders on the best possible terms. Feeding cereals are afloat or in store sufficient to provide supplies on present rate of consumption until the end of April, 1951; assuming that the present rate of consumption is doubled, the lasting position at present would be until March, and ample time and resources are available further to replenish these stocks.
