Vol. 123 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Butter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the names of the countries to which Irish butter has been exported, the price paid per cwt. by each country and how that price compares with the price obtained by the Danish Minister for Agriculture for butter exported to these countries by Denmark this year.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by the Taoiseach to-day to a similar question asked by Deputy Thomas Walsh.

Since 1st November the following additional quantities of butter were exported to the countries and at the f.o.b. prices indicated:—

8,492 cwt. to France at £18 8s. 6d. per cwt.;

14,764 cwt. to Germany (West) at £18 4s. 8d. per cwt.

The price obtained by the Danish Minister for Agriculture for butter does not fall within my province.

Is it not possible for the Minister to find out what price the Danish Minister secured for butter?

I do not think that is a matter for which I am responsible to this House.

It is not suggested that the Minister is. He is merely asked about it and I am repeating the question. Is it not to be expected that the Minister would make an effort to secure the information sought in the question?

In my respectful submission, it is not a matter for which I am responsible to the House. If you rule otherwise, a Leas-Chinn Chomhairle, I shall prepare myself to furnish the information.
