Vol. 123 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dairy Science Institute.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he proposes to transfer the Dairy Science Institute from Cork to Dublin; and, if so, whether this proposal is not at variance with the Government's stated policy of decentralisation.

There is no intention arbitrarily to intrude upon the internal organisation of University College, Cork. In view of the proposal to organise a modern and adequately equipped institute of agricultural and veterinary science in association with the National University and Trinity College, Dublin, it was thought right to inquire if the Dairy Science Institute in University College, Cork, wished to participate and to avail of the facilities of co-ordination envisaged in this institute, but they cannot be in any doubt that if they, through the governing body and president of University College, indicate a strong preference to continue as they are, their wishes will be readily acceded to.
