Vol. 123 No. 8

- Accommodation Roads (Kenmare).

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (1) why a grant under the minor relief scheme has not been allocated for the repair of the Drombohilly accommodation road, E.D. Ardea, Kenmare, and (2) whether there is any possibility of such a grant being made available this year.

I am sure the Deputy will understand that in selecting employment schemes in each area within the proportionate allocation available from the Vote, all proposals are considered on their merits, and those are selected which appear to have the greatest merit in relation to the need that exists for the work and the number of landholders served in relation to the costs. Judged by these standards, the scheme referred to by the Deputy is not considered to be the best in the area.

No grant, therefore, has been made this year for the case, but it will again receive consideration on its merits in the next financial year.

asked the Minister for Finance why a grant under the minor relief schemes was not allocated this year for the repair of an accommodation road in the townland of Rath, E.D. Caherdaniel, from the county road end south-west to Mr. Patrick Shea's house and the branch south to Reenaratha pier (ref. no. t. 146).

I am sure the Deputy will understand that in selecting employment schemes in each area within the proportionate allocation from the Vote, all proposals are considered on their merits and those are selected which appear to have the greatest merit in relation to the need that exists for the work and the number of landholders served in relation to the cost. More suitable proposals were selected for Caherdaniel electoral division this year, and the proposal referred to by the Deputy will again receive due consideration on its merits in the next financial year.

Nothing is ever rejected here.

In your time quite a lot used to be rejected.
