asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any reports have been received by his Department regarding the presence of coal in North County Dublin; and, if so, if he will state what steps will be taken to develop mining in these areas.
- County Dublin Coal Deposits.
There have been reports from time to time that coal deposits were present in North County Dublin, but investigation failed to confirm the existence of any workable deposits. Deposits of black shale in the Naul district have from time to time been confused with workable coal seams. I am advised that all the geological indications are that the area does not contain coal seams of any commercial value.
