- Swimming Pools.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether, in view of the importance from a physical health point of view, he will encourage the establishment of swimming pools in the urban and rural towns of East Cork; and, as a practical gesture, make provision in the 1951 Estimate for his Department for grants towards the erection of swimming pools in these towns.

Urban and rural sanitary authorities have power to provide and maintain swimming pools, but in present circumstances, housing, sanitary services and other essential works have prior claim on finance, materials and labour. Subject to this consideration, the question of making grants available in appropriate cases in being examined.
