Vol. 123 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Telephones.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider the erection of a public telephone kiosk in the town of Dungloe.

I regret that the use likely to be made of a public telephone kiosk at Dungloe would not be sufficient to justify the erection of one there.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will regard as a matter of urgency the installation of a public telephone in Scotshouse sub-post office, and if he can give any indication now as to when this facility will be provided.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply on the 8th November to Deputy Commons regarding the provision of a call office at Tooreen, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo.

It is not possible to say at present when a call office will be provided at Scotshouse.

Is the Minister aware that only a short time ago a man's life could have been spared by the provision of telephonic facilities in Scotshouse? The man had his legs severed by a mowing-machine and the delay in calling for medical assistance and skilled treatment was due to the nonprovision of a telephone in the area.

There are over 700 offices required and the work can only be done in rotation. We are taking each case in rotation.

Can the Minister say if the 700 are being taken in the order of urgency? I do not think any one is as urgent as this.
