Vol. 123 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post Office Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has received a copy of a resolution passed by Ceannanus Mór Branch, Post Office Workers' Union, making a demand on the Government for a living wage, and if he will state whether the question is getting consideration, and if any decision has yet been given on the general question of wage increases for Post Office employees.

A copy of the resolution referred to was sent to me by the Deputy. The resolution is not being considered, as under departmental regulations, representations regarding wage claims may be made only by the central executive of the union. The union has available to it for the settlement of such claims the machinery of the conciliation and arbitration scheme.

A considerable number of claims on behalf of various Post Office grades are being dealt with by that machinery at present, and the decisions will be announced in due course.
