Vol. 123 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Works Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the urgent necessity for the carrying through of the drainage scheme at Cladanure, Kenmare, County Kerry, which would facilitate 11 farmers, and whether he is prepared to allocate a grant for the carrying through of the work at an early date.

I find that in the Special Employment Schemes Office there are reports available on a number of drains in this area, but it is not possible to say which, if any, of these the Deputy has in mind.

If, however, I am supplied with details, including the name and address of at least one of the landholders concerned, I shall have inquiries made and shall let the Deputy know the position.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the urgent necessity for the repair, which would facilitate local farmers and the general public, of the road leading from the county road at Douglas School, Douglas, Killorglin, going north to Patrick Heffernan's house and if he is prepared to allocate a grant for the carrying through of the work.

The proportionate amount available this winter for employment schemes in the electoral division of Killorglin has already been allocated to other works which were considered more necessary.

The proposal in question will receive consideration on its merits in connection with future programmes of minor employment schemes; but it could be given priority in the meantime if an application were submitted under the rural improvements scheme, which requires a contribution from the landholders concerned.

Is the Minister aware that some mistake has been made in the investigation of that district? There is a series of roads in the area, and I submit that the engineer who inspected failed to report on this particular section.

That is not so. We have a report from our engineer on it.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the urgent necessity for the repair of the accommodation road from Mrs. John Shea's residence, Reenalagane, Glenbeigh, to Michael Curran's residence which would facilitate 15 tenants and if he is prepared to allocate a grant for the carrying through of the work.

The proportionate amount available this winter for employment schemes in the electoral division of Glenbehy has already been allocated to other works which were considered more necessary.

The proposal in question will receive consideration on its merits in connection with future programmes of minor employment schemes; but it could be given priority in the meantime if an application were submitted under the rural improvements scheme, which requires a contribution from the landholders concerned.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the urgent necessity for the repair of the accommodation road leading from the county road at Reenalagane, Glenbeigh, from Mrs. Jane Murphy's house to the strand which would enable the local farmers and general public to haul sand and seaweed and if in the circumstances he will allocate a grant for this purpose.

The proportionate amount available this winter for employment schemes in the electoral division of Glenbehy has already been allocated to other works which were considered more necessary.

The proposal in question will receive consideration on its merits in connection with future programmes of minor employment schemes; but it could be given priority in the meantime if an application were submitted under the rural improvements scheme, which requires in this case a small contribution from the landholders concerned.
