asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that grants to Mayo County Council, which are usually notified in November, have not yet been notified and as a result no schemes for work could be prepared for Christmas; and if, in the circumstances, he will state (a) the amount of the grant he intends to give in this case, and (b) the reason for the delay.
- County Council Grants.
A grant of £19,480 under the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote, subject to a local contribution of £5,825, was notified to the Mayo County Council on 6th September last. The council's proposals to absorb these funds have been approved and the council have been notified accordingly. It is understood that arrangements are being made to commence work. There was no delay in dealing with this matter in my Department.
