Vol. 124 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Certifying Surgeon (Dunmanway).

Mr. Murphy

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the reason for the delay in appointing a certifying surgeon under the Workmen's Compensation Acts for the Dunmanway area and, further, if he will state how long the post has been vacant.

The death of the former holder was not brought to my notice until recently. Applications for the vacancy have been invited from the eligible doctors resident in the area and I hope that a new appointment will be made in the very near future.

Mr. Murphy

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that this post has been vacant since June, 1949, and that the Department of Industry and Commerce has been very slow in appointing a surgeon to certify genuine applicants who have been waiting for workmen's compensation since the 9th November?

I am aware that the post has been vacant since May, 1949, but for some reason not known to me nobody noticed that the holder of it had died.

You do not notice anything over there.
