Vol. 124 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Juvenile Employment Commission.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) whether a report has been issued regarding juvenile employment by a commission set up to inquire into the problem many years ago; (b) whether evidence submitted by persons interested was fully considered; (c) the cost of the commission to date; (d) the amounts paid in salaries and fees to its members, and (e) the action which will be taken to implement its recommendations, if any.

The report of the Commission on Youth Unemployment has not yet been received.

I understand that the final draft of the report is in course of preparation and it can be assumed that the commission has fully considered the evidence submitted to it.

Pending the receipt and examination of the report, I am unable to indicate the action which will be taken on the recommendations which the commission may make.

Members of the commission receive neither salaries nor fees. The cost of the commission to date is approximately £583, plus the cost of such assistance as has been rendered to it by the staff of my Department.
