Vol. 124 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair Works.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when it is hoped to repair the dangerous slip at the Abbey, Bantry, which is used by the Widdy islanders.

My office has had no representations about the slip in question since 1940. It appeared at that time that it was private property and that the permissive use made of it by the public was extremely limited. If I can be assured that the circumstances in these respects have changed since then, I shall have further inquiries made.

I raised this matter by way of parliamentary question twice during the lifetime of this Dáil, wherever the question has been lost. The pier is constantly used by the islanders for landing cattle.

The last report I have here is from the Department of Agriculture. If the Deputy will give me further information, I will look into it.

I have discussed it on several occasions.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the road leading from Ballard Cross to the main county council road at Emlaghowen is in need of immediate repair, and whether, in view of the fact that a large area of turbary is being developed adjacent to this road, he will sanction a grant for the purpose.

The description given by the Deputy is not sufficient to enable my office to locate with certainty the site of the work he has in mind. If he will give me more detailed particulars, I shall have inquiries made.
