Vol. 124 No. 5

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Brick and Cashen Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether (1) the drainage of the Maine catchment area will follow immediately on the completion of the Brick and Cashen drainage scheme; (2) a partial survey of the Maine is already available, and (3) the full survey will be made in the near future.

Certain engineering information is available from previous inspections in the Maine catchment area but, for the purpose of formulating a comprehensive scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, a complete and detailed engineering survey will be necessary. It is not possible at present to state when that survey can be undertaken. On completion of the survey, the scheme will have to be prepared, exhibited and confirmed in accordance with the Act, and the Deputy will appreciate that at this stage it would be premature to forecast when actual works can be begun.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state that the drainage of the Maine catchment area will follow immediately on the completion of the Brick and Cashen drainage scheme?

Yes; it will follow the Brick and Cashen drainage scheme.
