Vol. 124 No. 5

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Defective Stone-Work on Government Buildings.

Mr. Brady

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when it is intended to start work on the replacement of the defective stone-work on Government Buildings, Kildare Street.

I assume that the buildings which the Deputy has in mind are the National Library and National Museum. It is intended to undertake this work in stages, and detailed drawings for the first stage have been prepared. Owing to the continuing pressure of more urgent works, no further progress has been possible, and I am unable to state when the actual work can be commenced.

Mr. Brady

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say when it is likely that this work will be commenced, because the same reply exactly was given 12 months ago? Further, is he aware that the position of the quarrymen in County Dublin is very serious at present as there is practically no employment there? Can he not do something to expedite this work?

I will look into it and do all I possibly can.
