Vol. 124 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Pádraig Ó Cuinneáin

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the cause of the delay in proceeding with the proposed housing scheme at Borrisoleigh, County Tipperary; and whether it is intended to use the splendid site available for the purpose.

The provision of houses in Borrisoleigh is awaiting the acquisition of a site for the scheme. I understand that the county council are taking steps to acquire sufficient sites to satisfy housing needs generally in the county health district, including Borrisoleigh. Pending the submission of proposals from the county council, I am not in a position to comment on the merits of any particular site.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of local authority houses completed in Laoighis in each year since 1932 and the number at present under construction and being planned.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Chinn Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

The number of local authority houses under construction in Offaly County at 31st January, 1951, was 45. Sites had been acquired at the same date for a further 259 houses, and site development was in progress in respect of 74 of these.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position concerning the local authority housing scheme for Cloghan, Offaly.

A tender for the erection of ten houses at Cloghan was accepted by the Offaly County Council and was approved by my Department on the 28th December, 1950. I understand that building operations have not yet commenced, but that the contractor is being pressed by the local authority to put the work in hands without further delay.
