Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price Increases.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the list of commodities which have been increased in price since the 14th June, 1951, with his approval or with the approval of the Government or of any other Minister, and the amount of the increase in each case.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have circulated with the Official Report, a statement showing the commodities the prices of which have been increased with my approval since the 14th June, 1951 and the amount of the increase in each case.

That part of the Deputy's question relating to price increases approved by any other Minister should be addressed to the Minister concerned.

Following is the statement:—

COMMODITIES WHICH HAVE BEEN INCREASED IN PRICE IN THE PERIOD FROM 14TH JUNE, 1951

CONDENSED MILK:

Full cream

1½d. and 2d. per tin according to size.

Skimmed

1½d. per tin.

PACKED AND CANNED PEAS AND BEANS:

Dried Peas

Ranging from 1d. to 2d. per packet according to weight.

Ready Cooked Peas

Ranging from 1½d. to 2d. per can, according to weight.

Fresh Garden Peas

2d. per can.

Ready Cooked Beans

Ranging from 1d. to 3d. per can according to weight.

Ready Cooked Beans with Pork

Ranging from 1d. to 2d. per can according to weight.

CONFECTIONERY:

In the case of one manufacturer an increase of ½d. per bar was allowed for one particular line of chocolate bars and an increase of 9½d. in the prices of seven sweet bars and one sweet line.

LINSEED OILS

£15 per ton.

CAKE AND MEAL

£1 per ton.

SOAPS AND DETERGENTS:

Household Soap

1d. per 12 oz bar.

Toilet Soap

½d. per 3 oz. tablet.

Detergents

1d. per large or medium container.

SEWING THREAD

Ranging from 1d. to 2d. per 100 yards.

PEDAL BICYCLES(Five different makes).

Ranging from 10/9 to £1 16s. 9d. per machine.

IMPORTED TIMBER:

Pitch Pine

4s. 2d. per cubic foot.

Douglas Fir

3s. 8d. per cubic foot.

COKE

Increases ranging from £1 0s. 0d. per ton to £2 15s. 0d. per ton for coke produced by the gas undertakings in Cobh, Dundalk, Enniscorthy, Fermoy, Galway, Kilkenny, Monaghan, Naas, Thurles, Tipperary, Waterford, Wicklow, Dublin, Cork, Carlow.

ALCO

£1 per ton.

GAS

1.25d. per therm in Dublin and 1/6 per 1,000 cubic feet in Carlow.

TURF (machine won)

9s. 4d. per ton (ex bog).

BRIQUETTES

10s. per ton (ex factory).
