Vol. 127 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the failure to deliver door-frames, window-frames and roofing timber on the building site on time as heretofore is causing a serious hold-up in work on houses being built under the Gaeltacht housing scheme and, as the nondelivery of these materials is preventing the completion of houses in the Spiddal and other areas in Connemara, if he will take steps to expedite delivery so that these houses may be finished before the bad weather.

I am not aware that the position is as indicated in the question. The delivery of materials to the building site is a matter for arrangement between the grantee and the supplier. If the Deputy is aware of any cases where such arrangements have not been carried out, and furnishes me with particulars, I will have the matter investigated.

Will the Minister indicate who is the supplier at the moment?

The position is that there has been an official supplier, Messrs. Joyce of Oughterard.

He is not supplying now.

He fulfilled the orders received up to recently.

Now that he is no longer supplying, will the Minister get another official supplier?

I will certainly look into the matter.
