asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the quantity of turf produced and saved in the current year by each county council.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report. Following is the statement:—

(a) The quantities shown are in terms of estimated sale tons (dry).

(b)“Quantity of turf saved” is the amount of turf produced which had been disposed of or was ready for disposal as at 13th October.

(c) Carlow and Wexford County Councils were unable to engage in turf production owing to lack of suitable bog. Dublin County Council decided to procure turf from private contractors. In the early part of the season Carlow and Kildare County Councils made available some labour to Bórd na Móna for turf production in Kildare.
