Vol. 127 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Waterford Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the lands of Mrs. Sims, Coolbeggan West, Knockmore, County Waterford, taken over by his Department for afforestation, comprise for the most part arable land suitable for tillage and fit to produce wheat, corn and potatoes and, as there is agitation in the district for the division of this land among the small holders, if he will reconsider the decision to plant the land and request the Land Commission to divide the land.

The Land Commission inspected this area in 1949 but decided against its acquisition for their purposes. I am informed that, although some of the land was formerly tilled, it is of poor quality generally. There appears to be no reason to alter the decision to plant the land.
