Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compilation of Voters' Lists.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether an inquiry was recently held into the system employed in the compilation of voters' lists by the Dublin Corporation and, if so, whether such inquiry revealed any irregularities or negligence in the compilation or inspection system, as a result of which E.A. 1 forms were not issued in certain streets, or to certain families; and, if so, if he will state what steps he is now taking to ensure that the voters' register is faithfully and accurately compiled.

No inquiry has been held on my directions or by any officer of my Department into the system employed for the compilation of the Electors' Lists in Dublin County Borough.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether, in connection with the compilation of the voters' register, the practice has been discontinued this year of sending an inspector to schools, institutions and colleges to collect the E.A. 1 forms, and whether, as a result of the discontinuance of this practice, there are an unusual number of these forms outstanding this year.

I have no information as to the particular measures taken by registration officers to secure the return of Registration Forms E.A. 1 from schools, institutions and colleges. These forms may be returned by post, and radio and Press appeals were made to the public to assist the registration officers by returning the forms promptly. I understand that there has been a considerable increase in the number of such forms returned this year.
