Vol. 127 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Economies in Government Expenditure.

asked the Taoiseach whether, in view of his statement at a Fianna Fáil function in Cork on Sunday, the 18th November, that the Government expected to be able to make economies amounting to £1,500,000 on the current year's budgeted expenditure, he will indicate the heads under which the Government expect to make these savings.

asked the Taoiseach if he will give particulars of the estimated savings of £1,500,000 on Supply Services in the current financial year.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I will answer Questions Nos. 1 and 2 together.

The figure of £1,500,000, for savings, to which I referred in Cork, and in the Dáil last Wednesday, is a global estimate. It is based on past experience as to the extent to which the total sum voted for non-capital expenditure may exceed the sum actually required to meet such expenditure, and is not based on a calculation related specifically to particular items.
