Vol. 129 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment in County Offaly.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the number of registered unemployed at present on the register at Portlaoighise, Portarlington, Tullamore, Birr and Edenderry, and the numbers registered on 1st February, 1951, and on 1st February, 1950, at the same offices.

The numbers of persons registered at the local offices mentioned by the Deputy on Saturday, 23rd February, 1952, and on the first Saturday in February, 1951 and 1950, were as follows:—

May I take it that, in view of the considerable increase in the numbers of unemployed in Tullamore and Birr, in particular, the Parliamentary Secretary will communicate with his colleague, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance, for the purpose of having some schemes put into operation immediately to provide work for the people in those areas?

That is a separate question.
