Vol. 129 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Galway Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands whether, having regard to the extreme congestion prevailing in the neighbourhood, he will urge upon the Land Commission the need for the greatest expedition in acquiring and dividing the Kirwan estate, Gardenfield, Tuam, County Galway.

The proceedings for the acquisition of the estate in question are being expedited as much as possible and are now well advanced.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of dividing the Blake estate, Corbally, Cummer, County Galway; and, if so, with what result; and whether, in dividing this estate, the Land Commission will have special regard to the needs of uneconomic holders and landless men.

The proceedings for the acquisition of this estate are nearing completion. It is the invariable practice of the Land Commission to consider the claims of all eligible persons or bodies before allotting any lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the present position regarding the acquisition and eventual distribution of the Mylotte Estate, Ardour, Kilconly, County Galway.

The proceedings for the acquisition of the Mylotte Estate are well advanced but have not yet reached the stage at which arrangements can be made for the taking of possession and allotment of the lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have prepared a scheme for the division of the Burke estate, Togher, Tuam; and, if so, when this scheme is likely to be put into operation.

A scheme for the allotment of this estate has not been prepared. The lands are to be allotted in conjunction with adjoining lands, the subject of acquisition proceedings which are nearing completion. It is unlikely that the Land Commission will be in a position to allot the lands this spring.
