asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that extensive redundancy has been caused amongst casual labourers employed by the Electricity Supply Board due to difficulties confronting the board in securing permits to import the cable necessary to carry out certain works; and, if so, if he will arrange that every assistance is given to the board to secure the required material.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import of Cable.
I am informed that the Electricity Supply Board were recently obliged to lay off a number of workers because of delay in securing delivery of certain cables ordered from Britain. The cables in question are of a kind not yet manufactured in this country and no permit for their importation is required. It may be assumed that the board are taking all practicable measures to expedite their delivery.
