Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Controlled Commodities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will furnish particulars as to the increases which have taken place since the 14th June last in the prices of commodities which are subject to price control.

I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle to have circulated with the Official Report a statement giving the particulars required by the Deputy in respect of the prices of commodities which are subject to price control by means of specific Price Orders. The increases in prices were recommended by the Prices Advisory Body in all cases with the exception of butter, cocoa and sugar.

Following is the statement:—

Particulars of increases that have taken place since 14th June, 1951, in the prices of commodities which are controlled by Specific Prices Orders.

Pedal Bicycles

Ranging from 4/7 to £1 14s. 11d. per machine.

Creamery Butter

2d per lb.

Cheese:

Cheddar

4d. per lb.

Block

5d. per lb.

Portions

7d. per lb.

Cigarettes

½d. per packet of 10 (popular brands).

Tobacco

Hard plug—1½d. per oz.

Cut Plug, Flake, etc., ½d. to 4d. per oz.

Roll and Coil—1½d. to 2d. per oz.

Coal

Various increases in different areas ranging from 5/- per ton to £1 per ton.

Cocoa

2½d. per ¼ lb.

Condensed Milk:

Full Cream

1½d. and 2d. per tin.

Skimmed

1½d. per tin.

Fresh Milk:

Dublin

Increases ranging from ¾d. to 1¼d. per pint (Seasonal changes).

Cork

Increase of 1¼d. per pint (Seasonal change).

Gas

Various increases ranging from 1.25d. per therm to 6d. per therm in different areas.

Kerosene

2¼d. per gal.

Petrol

1¼d. per gal.

Dried Peas

Ranging from 2d. to 4½d. per packet according to weight.

Soaps:

Household Soap

1d. per 12 oz. bar.

Toilet Soap

½d. per 3 oz. tablet.

Detergents

1d. per container.

Sewing Thread

Ranging from 1½d. to 2½d. per reel of 100 yards.

Imported Timber:

Whitewood

Increases ranging from £20 5s. to £25 10s. per standard of 270 cu. ft.

Redwood

Increases ranging from £11 15s. to £22 10s. per standard of 270 cu. ft.

Pitch Pine

4/2 per cu. ft.

Douglas Fir

3/8 per cu. ft.

Sugar (Unrationed)
