asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the estimated amount that will be paid out of the Road Fund by way of grant to local authorities in respect of the work done and to be done during the years 1951-52 and 1952-53 distinguishing between (a) maintenance recoupment on main roads; (b) main road improvement or special grants, and (c) county road improvement grants.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate the reply, which is in the form of a tabular statement, with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

NOTES.

1. The amount of the main road upkeep grant for 1952/53 will depend on the provision made by the local authorities for main road upkeep. It is not possible as yet to furnish a reliable estimate of the amount of the grant.

2. In addition to the above, the following special grants were allocated to local authorities in 1951/52:

3. A 50 per cent. grant amounting to £200,000 was also made available to county councils in 1951/52 for the stockpiling of tars and bitumens.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the total road grants made available to (a) the Laoighis County Council, and (b) the Offaly County Council in each of the years 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1952.
