Vol. 129 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvement of Donegal Ports.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the necessity for the improvement of landing facilities at Port Mor, Port an Ronan and Inneuran at Malin Head, County Donegal; and, if so, if he will take steps to have improvements carried out at those ports.

Representations for the provision of improved landing facilities at Portaronan and Port Inneuran in the Malin Head area have been received and the merits of the proposals are being investigated from the point of view of the local fishery industry.

A scheme for the provision of a harbour at Portmore, Malin Head, which would be safe for boats at anchor in all weathers and at all stages of the tide, was investigated in 1940, when it was found that the possibilities at this place are limited and that the provision of the required facilities would not be justified by the high expenditure involved.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary consider the erection of a winch at Port an Ronan? It would greatly facilitate local fishermen.

This matter has been referred to the Department of Agriculture and they are arranging for one of their inspectors to visit the place.
