Vol. 129 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Delay in Issue of Grants.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that there is still unwarranted delay in the principal probate registry regarding the issue of grants whereby serious inconvenience is being caused; and, if so, if he will take appropriate steps to remedy the situation.

Mr. Boland

The staffing and work position in the principal probate registry has recently been subjected to a special inquiry. I am informed that the normal time for issue of a grant is seven days, and that no single case of complaint has been brought to the notice of the probate officer in the current year. If the Deputy will cite specific cases of unwarranted delay, I shall be glad to have them investigated.

May I assure the Minister that there have been delays to my knowledge of from five to seven weeks between the filing of papers and the issue of grants?

Mr. Boland

Let me know of any complaints and I shall have them looked into.

I shall have pleasure in doing so.
