Vol. 129 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Knockcollier Quarry Employees.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that employees of the Laoighis County Council engaged at Knockcollier Quarry who travel to their work from a wide area are frequently sent home without work or pay on the mere threat of wet weather; and, if so, if he will take steps to ensure that the conditions under which these men are employed will be investigated.

I am not so aware. I have no functions in the matter referred to by the Deputy, but I understand that a wet-time scheme for road workers has been operated in the county.

Mr. O'Higgins

Would the Minister have any power to inquire into the matter?

I have made inquiries.

It is up to the Laoighis County Council themselves.

They have, in fact, a wet-time scheme.
