Vol. 129 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shore Sand Subsidy.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will now reconsider his decision and allow the subsidy to the county committee of agriculture for Kerry to enable them to subsidise shore sand for the farmers of North Kerry which they will require to improve their lands and increase production at least until such time as the proposed ground limestone plant at Lixnaw is put into operation.

Mr. Walsh

I understand that the limestone grinding plant being erected at Lixnaw will be in production in the very near future. This will enable farmers in the North Kerry area to have their needs in calcium satisfied under the ground limestone scheme. In these circumstances I do not propose to approve the operation by the County Kerry Committee of Agriculture of a sea-sand subsidy scheme in that part of the county.
