Vol. 130 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garden of Remembrance.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when it is hoped to commence building the Garden of Remembrance to commemorate the leaders of 1916.

The Deputy will be aware from replies to previous questions on this subject that the site was made available to the Rotunda Hospital Authorities as a temporary measure for the purposes of an infant welfare unit. Work on the Garden of Remembrance cannot be commenced until the temporary user of the site shall have ceased. Interdepartmental discussions, however, have been taking place to determine how the construction of the garden can be undertaken with the least possible disturbance to the buildings which have been erected on its original site. When a satisfactory solution to this problem has been found work on the memorial will be initiated without any unnecessary delay.

No doubt the Deputies on the opposite side who were interested in this matter when they were here on these benches will take note of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply.

Yes. Something is being done.
