Vol. 130 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sanitary Service Works.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the expenditure by local authorities on sanitary service works towards which grants were provided in the year 1950-51 and the amount of the grants so provided (specifying the Vote and sub-head) and if he will further state the estimated expenditure by local authorities on similar works in the years 1951-52 and 1952-53 and the grants made available for them.

In 1950-51 capital expenditure of £679,872 on sanitary services works was recouped to the extent of £158,883, £36,906 and £2,000 from subheads G, F and L respectively of the Vote for Employment and Emergency Schemes and £81,980 from the Transition Development Fund.

From 1st April, 1951, the system of subvention by way of lump sum grants was altered to one of contributions towards loan charges and grants paid thereafter relate only to balances of old allocations, while the provision for contributions towards loan charges is based on the growing aggregate of repayments on foot of loans raised after that date and not on the capital programme in any particular year.

Capital expenditure for 1951-52 is estimated to be £770,000 and in 1952-53, £950,000.
