Vol. 130 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - East Limerick Electricity Supply.

Mr. Crowley

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the Electricity Supply Board intends to make current available to the people of Ballyorgan, Glenroe and Glenbrohane, East Limerick.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the Ballyorgan rural area, which includes most of the parish of Glenroe, has been considered for selection by the board on a number of occasions but has not been successful owing to a low financial return. The board consider it to be unlikely that the development of the area will take place in the near future.

The board also inform me that the Glenbrohane area is included in the Garryspillane area which also has failed to be selected on a number of occasions. Last year the local committee approached the board with a view to securing some improvement in the economics of the area but although the committee was asked to ascertain the demand for supply in an adjoining district which could be added to the original area to improve its economics, no further communication was received from the committee.
