Excluding funds held by the Courts of Justice, the Public Trustee and the Commissioners of Charitable Donations and Bequests, the investment of which is outside the control of the Minister for Finance, the nominal value of the British Government securities held by Departmental and other Government Funds at 31st March, 1952, was £42,732,000. The market value at the same date was £34,716,000.
It is, of course, only on the sale of securities that any actual gain or loss occurs.
