Vol. 131 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clones Butter Seizure.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will explain why 57 lb. of butter seized and sealed on the premises of a person in Clones by officers of his Department in January, 1952, are still there awaiting disposal.

On Wednesday, 9th January, 1952, during the course of an investigation of the butter transactions of a trader in Clones, the officers carrying out the investigation requested the trader to keep intact for a period of one week 57 lb. of butter then in his possession. The trader gave an undertaking to do this. Two days later, that is, on 11th January, 1952, he was formally released from the undertaking.

Might I inquire in what condition was the butter when the general dispensation was provided? Was the butter edible?

The butter was quite edible after two days.

It was perfectly edible after a week.
