Vol. 131 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the inadequacy of the present supply of flour to country bakers, and if he will take steps to ensure the allocation of adequate supplies of flour to all bakeries in country districts.

Supplies of flour adequate to meet the ration entitlements of their customers are made available to all bakers, including country bakers.

I am aware that the rationing of flour and bread gives rise to supply difficulties in many rural areas, and that is one of the reasons why the Government have decided to bring rationing to an end in July next.

Is the Minister aware that the termination of rationing is going to cause certain bakers in the country areas to go out of business for the last three weeks in June if some arrangement is not come to regarding the supply of flour before that date owing to the announcement regarding the ending of rationing?

Every baker gets the flour he requires to supply rations to his customers.

Owing to the unsatisfactory nature of the reply I propose to raise the subject matter of this question again at the end of questions.
