Vol. 131 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lime Subsidy Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) what were the terms of the lime subsidy (reclamation and drainage) scheme which operated in conjunction with the farm improvements scheme, (b) what was its scope and (c) what grants were paid under it in each year of its operation.

Mr. Walsh

The information sought is contained in the annual reports of the Minister for Agriculture for the years from 1941-42 to 1949-50 inclusive.

Would it be asking the Minister too much to provide that such things be published in the Official Report, instead of asking me to wade through my library, where, I need hardly mention, every report of the Department of Agriculture resides?

Mr. Walsh

We are trying to get on with the work.

Am I to take it that any Department is too busy to do the State's work and cannot make time to prepare parliamentary answers to questions put down by Teachtaí?

The Ceann Comhairle cannot force any Minister to give an answer. The Deputy knows that.

He might try to get this man not to be talking off the cuff.
